Come to our house on any day that the temperature is over 60 degrees and you will more than likely find us out on the deck.
Our home is average. Typical midwestern house. But our deck is the bomb diggity! It is where most of our warm weather blogging takes place. We both have a chair that is “ours”. Our own space within our space. Our favorite room of the house.
This is where we drink our coffee (and smoothies) on our mornings off. It is peaceful and quiet, and we have a fairly good view of the sunrise.
We have a great view of stars, planets, and meteor showers. Tonight we will see the International Space Station. A couple years ago a bald eagle was in our neighborhood and flew over our deck all the time! We are convinced the eagle was trying to pick up a little white furry dog for its lunch.
There have been several game nights out on the deck. Card games – Five Crowns is our favorite. The atmosphere is perfect for hanging out with family and friends.
It is the perfect place for girls’ nights. A glass of lemonade or wine or both. A fire in the fake fire pit. The real fire pit is in the patio down below, but for some quick ambiance, the gas fire pit can’t be beat.
From early spring until late fall, the deck is covered in flowers. One of us has a green thumb and we have multiple hanging baskets and planters filled with blooms and greenery.
The deck is Bernie and Spike’s favorite place to keep an eye on our yard and the surrounding areas. Our puppies are the best watchdogs – keep an eye out for that subject in a future post. The squirrels come up on the deck to get their attention and then the chase is on.
A wide variety of birds call our deck the friendly diner. A full bird feeder and seeds sprinkled on the railing keep them happy. We love hummingbirds and are fascinated by their speed and the fact that they come here every year from Mexico. Mexico, y’all! These amazing little creatures fly across the Gulf of Mexico to come visit Ohio. Not sure where the logic is in that, but we are very appreciative of their ultra kick-butt physicalness.
