Super Bowl Sunday is a holiday-like event in many households, ours included. We prepared a feast, invited family and friends, and hooped and hollered with the best of them.
This Super Bowl was more fun than usual because Don was competing in his Hometown Trophy League.
Don’s Hometown League follows the NFL schedule instead of having early playoffs like most Fantasy Football Leagues. They play in real time, and it gets really serious.
Saturday night, Don and Steve completed the final draft of the season. The big question was Todd Gurley – was he going to put up big points or disappoint? Don had the first pick so there was a lot of pressure on him to make the decision of whether or not to draft Gurley. His gut told him that the Patriot’s Running Back, Sony Michel, was going to have a stellar game, but it was too hard to pass on Gurley.
Too bad we can’t use our crystal ball with our Fantasy Football drafts. Michel brought in the numbers and Gurley was a flop.
Don held the lead through the entire game into the 4th quarter. Then his lead started to dwindle, giving us that sick to our stomach feeling. With a little over 2 minutes left on the clock, it was fairly clear that Steve was going to win the trophy.
The final score was 69-55. We were more than a little bummed at the outcome, but even though the humongous trophy will not be taking up residence in our house this year, Don had an amazing season.
