We spent most of our weekend preparing for summer. This included at least three trips to The Home Depot, several hours of cleaning up and planting, and we finally opened our pool. Spring came late in our part of the world, so we were behind schedule as far as swimming pools go.
Ohio winters are so long and brutal that warm summer days are meant to be celebrated. We do our best to make sure our backyard is party-worthy as soon as the weather allows. During the summer months, our deck is our favorite part of our home, and we are always more than ready to spend our days off out by the pool.
While Don is busy working on the pool, I exercise my green thumb and plant flowers for the hummingbirds and the bees. (SAVE THE BEES!)
We love watching the hummingbirds all summer – it is one of our favorite things about relaxing on our deck.

My favorite pet chicken has her own corner of the yard, and does a great job of keeping things bright and lively back there. I really, really, really wanted to have a few chickens, but this little one will have to do as long as there are coyotes howling nearby!
