In Northeast Ohio we don’t get too many beautiful sunny days in March. Today was one of those sunny, but too chilly to do much outside kind of days, so we decided to take a road trip to Cleveland. For the past few years, we have wanted to attend the Cleveland Auto Show, but between bad weather and work schedules it has never panned out. Today was the last day of the show, so we headed up to see what it is all about.
The Cleveland Auto Show has an impressive event lineup with several Cleveland sports celebrities. It is a great venue to meet your favorite sports stars and even get a few autographs. This year’s itinerary included Kenny Lofton, an all-time favorite Indians player. We heard a kid say that Kyrie Irving was over by the Cavs Jeep, so we headed over to see if it was true. No Kyrie, but the Cavs Jeep is super cool!
Because this was the last day of the show, there weren’t any celebrities scheduled to appear, but I was still hopeful that we might get lucky and run into a Browns player or two. There were no celebrity sightings for us, but we were both very impressed with the Lego Batmobile! This 17-foot Batmobile took almost 2,000 hours to build and is made of over 344,000 lego bricks.
We headed to the Mazda display first, since we both drive Mazdas. Don checked out the 2017 CX-5 and I immediately fell in love with the 2017 Mazda 3. I have driven a 3 for the last 11 years, and can see purchasing a new one in the not too distant future! We chatted with the Mazda guys for a few minutes and they gave me a keyring flash drive for being a loyal Mazda customer.
Our biggest adventure at the Auto Show was riding in a Jeep Wrangler through an indoor course which included steep hills, tippy terrain, a flight of stairs, and other slightly scary obstacles. Due to the fantastic technology of the Wrangler, the tires never even left the ground. We kind of wished we had ridden in the Cherokee which had only three tires on the ground and did a lot of tipping back and forth!
We finished out the show looking at the Ford Mustangs. Lego cars are fun, Mazdas are practical, and Jeeps can take you anywhere you want to go, but the Mustangs are still my favorite! The new ones are gorgeous, but you really can’t beat the slightly used one sitting in our garage waiting for a warm spring day.
