We are absolutely thrilled that Bob Lung took time out of his busy schedule to answer a few of our questions. Lung has made quite a name for himself and his Fantasy Football Consistency Guide, and has been making his rounds on radio shows and podcasts. He has incredible knowledge of Fantasy Football and a made-for-radio voice; we think it won’t be anytime at all until he is hosting his own program on Sirius XM Fantasy!
Bob Lung’s Fantasy Football career goes all the way back to 1985 when he and 11 of his friends started playing in a TD-only league with kickers. Lung worked for an accounting firm and had access to a PC and Lotus 1-2-3, so he was ordained League Commissioner. He is proud to say the league still exists today – and he is still the commissioner.
The 2018 Fantasy Sports Writers Association Award for Best Football Publication went to Bob Lung for his Fantasy Football Consistency Guide! The Guide was a finalist in 2017, which we thought was pretty spectacular since he was in the company of the best of the best. Lung says that it was an honor just to be nominated with Bob Harris and Chris Harris.
Even though Bob Lung’s Consistency Guide is known to be a highly respected publication, he says the idea of EVER winning never crossed his mind. Bob says when Sirius called him on awards night in February and told him he had won and was going live on the air in five minutes, he literally screamed loudly, “I WON!” He says he was almost speechless when he went on the air. We can’t even imagine! What a night! And, well deserved.
We asked Bob if he is still an accountant or if he has a full-time Fantasy Football career. He told us he is a CFO for a manufacturing company and he is happy with his job and doing the Fantasy stuff as a “hobby”. Quite a hobby there, Bob. Your hobby is helping thousands of people win their Fantasy Football leagues!
We first heard of Bob Lung when we attended the Pro Football Hall of Fame Fantasy Football Experience. This was the event that inspired us to start our blog, and was definitely a turning point in our relationship. Lung pulled off a fantastic two-day event jam packed with Hall of Famers, Fantasy experts, activities and food. The amount of Fantasy Football knowledge at that event was tremendous.
The next year, we were disappointed that there wasn’t a return of the Fantasy Football Experience. We had never attended anything like that before and wanted all of our Fantasy Football friends to have the chance to attend, also.
Last year, Bob Lung put together the King’s Classic – a huge expert draft at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Fantasy Football experts from across the country participated in the all day event that was broadcast live on Sirius XM Fantasy Radio. We listened to the draft and were able to meet up with Lung and several of the experts afterwards. It was an incredible experience and we anxiously waited to find out what Lung would come up with this year.
We are both super excited about Bob’s 2019 event, the Midwest Fantasy Football Expo. Bob’s own words say it best: “I’ve always had this dream of creating a big Fantasy Football weekend here in Canton, because of my “connection” with the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The idea was a big national Fantasy Football draft on Saturday and then a Fantasy Football Convention/Expo on Sunday. After pulling off the big expert draft last year with the King’s Classic, I decided to pursue the Expo idea. I decided to move it to the Cultural Center since it has some great areas for the event. It is on Sunday, August 18 from noon-6pm and the website to buy tickets is www.midwestffexpo.com.”
If there is anyway you can attend the Midwest Fantasy Football Expo, we highly recommend doing so. There will be a plethora of experts, podcasters, and speakers – Fantasy Football excitement for everyone!
The “pet” question always comes up, no matter who we are talking to. Bob says he is more of a dog guy, having had a dog that lived to be 14 years old. His orange tabby cat is 16, and still kicking.
When asked what his dream vacation or weekend would be, Lung answered, “Any weekend or vacation where all of my family and friends are together. We are all very close.”
Another fun fact about Bob Lung is that he and one of his buddies had a Fantasy Football radio program on WHBC and WAKR. This came up when we asked when he is going to have his own radio show. He has already had one! Bob would love to have his own show on Sirius, and we would really love that too.
We asked Bob what has been his favorite experience that he has had because of Fantasy Football. He said, “The King’s Classic last year was the ultimate. The fact that some of the best in the industry took time out of their schedules in mid-August to come to Canton, Ohio to be in this draft and have Sirius radio broadcast all day was a literal dream come true.” Bob Lung was in awe, and we are in awe of what he accomplished.
To finish, we wanted to know what was Bob’s favorite Fantasy Football prize. Because he is Bob Lung, he won a national contest about 15 years ago and the prize was a car! He says, “That was pretty cool.” Yep, Bob. We agree! Winning a car playing Fantasy Football is pretty cool.
