We think the first week of the season is the hardest. We have expectations of what we think will happen and how players will perform, but somehow it never works out exactly as planned.
Our head-to-head leagues are so much fun this year! The Smack Down Sports Legends league opened up with us playing against each other. How fun is that! I don’t have full bragging rights since Don helped me a lot during the draft, but I beat him solidly and had the highest score out of all 36 teams.
The Dirty Laundry League (thanks again, Howard Bender!) was a split – Don lost his game and I won mine. There is a lot of good natured competition in that league since it is all couples!
We are going to pass on talking about Don’s FFPC leagues this week. Hopefully Week Two will go a little better for him!
We started with a W in the Fantasy Dirt league playing against the only other listener. The experts are going to be putting up a tough fight so we have to give this one everything we’ve got!
Don won his Hometown Huge Trophy League. He beat Greg by four points, a little close for comfort.
The Fish Bowl added another W to the week. We still can’t believe Don is finally in it!
What are the odds that Don would go up against Bob Lung, the Consistency King, in the Warrior Bowl? Well, he did, and Bob beat him by 1.1. He will get another chance at Bob in the Fish Bowl!
Our Survivor Pool was a complete loss. We both got knocked out in the first week. Don mapped out all 18 weeks of the season, changed his pick a couple times, thought he was going to be the champ, and then got knocked out along with a huge number of other participants when San Francisco lost to Chicago. I took the Colts and that was also a bust. It’s the first time we have ever both lost in the first week. Bummer!
The Browns won their season opener for the first time in 18 years. The last time Cleveland won a season opener was in 2004! That is a nice streak to break. The game caught a lot of media attention since they went up against Baker Mayfield’s Carolina Panthers. Baker might have talked a little too much smack, and couldn’t quite hold up his end of the deal.
