In honor of the 2020 King’s Classic Fantasy Football Draft, we decided to repost this memory of the 2019 King’s Classic. COVID19 has shut down many sports related events, but this is easily one of the biggest disappointments. If we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic, we would be meeting up with experts from all over the country at BW3’s – friends we have made through our mutual love of fantasy football.
Our 2019 post:
This past weekend was an unbelievable experience for folks who love fantasy football. We met up with Fantasy Football experts on Saturday and Sunday, thanks to a spectacular event created by Bob Lung. In fact, as far as Fantasy Football goes, it doesn’t get any better than this!
Buffalo Wild Wings in Canton, Ohio was rocking with Fantasy Football experts Saturday night. Bob Lung’s King’s Classic Draft brought in pros from all over the country to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. After the draft, they all headed over to BWW’s for wings and good times. Most were old friends, with a new guy or two thrown into the mix.
Last year, we felt somewhat like stalkers when we showed up at the after draft get-together at Buffalo Wild Wings. That feeling last about two minutes and soon it seemed we were hanging out with old friends. This year we were so excited to see everyone that it never occurred to us that we might be crashing their party!
This is the blog post that is supposed to include pictures of us with Bob Harris, the Hall of Fame Fantasy Football Expert that we listen to faithfully on Sirius XM Fantasy Radio. We realized too late that we failed to have our picture taken with our favorite Football Diehard. Bob’s Fantasy Football credentials could fill a whole hall and then some.
We learn new things about Bob Harris all the time – like how he came to be on the show with Mike Dempsey. Turns out Bob was filling in for the regular guy, and that was all it took. Dempsey and Harris are a Fantasy Football radio show match made in heaven. They don’t require monitors in order to keep their conversation smooth. It just comes natural. It’s hard to believe these guys don’t broadcast from the same studio!
Sunday afternoon we attended Bob Lung’s Midwest Fantasy Football Expo, an absolutely incredible event that brought dozens of experts together for face-to-face time with fans. The expo had over thirty booths, tons of freebies, live podcasts and a Main Event stage.
There were several newbies at the Expo, in addition to the big names. We met the owner of StatementGames.com, a unique sports gaming experience in which players rate statements by probability. We were both intrigued with the idea behind the game, and enjoyed talking with the guys from Statement Games.
We headed home from the Expo to attend our hometown’s “Meet the Teams” event at the high school football field. Don’s son, Nathan, is participating in Cross Country and we were looking forward to watching him be introduced.
About thirty minutes before the event, the sky started getting dark. Fifteen minutes before it was to begin, it was canceled due to an imminent storm. And what a storm it was! We don’t get many high wind storms in our area, and this one was a doozy. Rain was blowing horizontally, branches were crashing down and we took shelter downstairs. The storm was over as quickly as it began, leaving most of our area without power.
Thankfully, we didn’t have any damage to our home and our power was restored by this afternoon. We were both happy that our televisions and appliances weren’t zapped, as we initially believed was the case. It was an electrical finish to a magical weekend!
